Girls Development Centre Programme Paused
22nd January 2026
Rochdale AFC Community Trust can confirm that the Girls Development Centre programme will conclude on Friday 13th February, as the club undertakes a strategic redesign of its female performance pathway.
This change forms part of a wider review and redevelopment of female football provision at Rochdale AFC, with a renewed focus on creating a clearer, stronger pathway for talented players across the borough and beyond into Rochdale AFC Women, beginning with the 2026/27 season.
Since its inception as the Keira Walsh Development Centre, and later evolving into the Rochdale AFC Girls Development Centre, programme was born in response to Rochdale AFC not being awarded an ETC licence and has supported 62 players with additional training opportunities. We are extremely proud that 7 players have progressed onto elite England Pathway programmes during this time, with 5 entering ETC/RTC environments.
As the current programme concludes, coaching staff are working closely with players to ensure a positive end to the season, including the completion of individual player reviews.
The club would like to reassure all stakeholders that this change does not affect Rochdale AFC Ladies in any way. Rochdale AFC Community Trust will continue to support the delivery of a strong grassroots football offer for young female footballers, working closely alongside the committee at Rochdale AFC Ladies to ensure accessible and sustainable playing opportunities remain in place.
The club remains fully committed to the long-term development of the women’s and girls’ game. Looking ahead, Rochdale AFC’s Female Football Development Officer, Matt Bee, is finalising a comprehensive Female Football Development Plan, which will be rolled out next season. This plan will underpin the club’s future approach to female football and further enhance opportunities for young players within the Rochdale area.
Rochdale AFC would like to thank all players, parents, volunteers, and staff for their dedication and support throughout the programme and looks forward to continuing its work in developing the next generation of female footballers.
