Premier League Primary Stars is the league’s most ambitious project to date. It uses the appeal of the league and professional football clubs to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills, with a view of supporting the holistic development of children.

PL Primary Stars is available to every primary school in England and Wales. It inspires children aged 5-11, both inside and outside the classroom, whilst underpinning all elements with high-quality teaching materials that cover English, Maths, PE and PSHE.

There are free to download lesson plans, assemblies, and exclusive videos to support the programme. It seeks to connect learning to the real world of sport, helping school staff to enthuse pupils to learn about resilience, diversity, self-esteem, and fair play.

Our Offering

• To inspire children to lead healthy, active lives.
• To engage children in all aspects of their learning.
• To motivate children to be the best they can be.
• To develop school staff to feel confident and eager to teach PE.

Our Mission

To offer a primary school programme that uses the appeal of the Premier League, football, and Rochdale AFC to improve and enhance Physical Education (PE) and other curriculum areas. We look to develop those crucial skills and values that will lead the children we work with to lead healthy, active, well-rounded lives.

PL Primary Stars Values

Each of these four key values are integral to every part of the PL Primary Stars initiative. Throughout the planning, delivery, and evaluation phases we make it certain that we are not just creating talented sportspeople, but outstanding people who can play a part in making our communities a better, more prosperous place for society to live and operate.

Our Offering

Through Premier League funding, we are able to offer staff and resources free of charge to local schools to deliver the following:

  • Supporting PE Lessons – 6 week high quality, curriculum linked PE sessions for the full class with an informal teacher development programme. Perfect for an NQT or a teacher looking to shake up their PE delivery.
  • Targeted Groups – 6 week intervention programme to targeted groups, themed around English, Maths or PHSE. A perfect innovative idea for children who may respond to a different style of learning.
  • Class Activities – A one off bespoke session around a specific topic for either English, Maths or PSHE. An engaging session on feelings, for example, set in a sporting/football context.
  • Social Action Project – Design and delivery of a community-based activity by pupils. Ideal for children to learn about their local community and/or environmental issues. Perfect for prefects/school council groups.
  • Girls Extra-Curricular Activities – Afterschool group sessions for girls with the focus on football or any other sport requested.
  • Competitions – Our network of Primary Stars schools are invited to participate regular competitions throughout the year. Many are ‘in school’ activities whereas other lead to regional or national prizes and finals.
