57 young footballers selected to represent Rochdale for the 2026/27 season

Rochdale | October 2026

After a 15-year absence, Rochdale Metro District School Team is officially back, with 57 talented young footballers from schools across the borough selected to represent Rochdale during the 2026/27 season.

The exciting return has been made possible through a partnership between Rochdale AFC Community Trust, Mike Ridowski of Rochdale Metro Schools Association and Rob Greenwood of Cardinal Langley.

The programme will see boys’ and girls’ teams at Under-13 and Under-15 level compete against neighbouring districts as part of the English Schools’ Football Association (ESFA) District programme.

The initiative aims to give young players the opportunity to represent their borough, develop their footballing abilities and experience the pride of playing district-level football.

Participation is completely free
, with official match kits provided. Training will primarily take place through short preparation camps to minimise disruption to school and grassroots football commitments.
